Art in Bloom-Macy's Flower Show 2015

I've just returned home from installing the 2015 Macy's Flower Show "Art In Bloom" in Chicago. It's always such a fun time reconnecting with the crew. This is my third year on the team and every year seems a bit like going back to camp, seeing familar faces and meeting new people as well.

Of course, as one of five anchor stores, the Macy's department store on State Street in Chicago (previously the Marshall Fields building) is an iconic location in itself. It's always interesting to be working both while the store is open and after hours when the lights sometimes go out and the music keeps playing. While designing the Macy's Flower Show may seem glamorous, trust me, it's a lot of hard physical work! Add to that odd and long hours and it makes for a very strenuous job. All that being said, I recall one early morning (about 6:00 a.m.) when a group of us were heading home from about a 10 hour night, walking out of the elevator together and all just bursting into laughter! That's how you know you're working with a fantastic team of people!!! I always seem to have so many laughs while working this show and that's a big part of what keeps me coming back.

Here's a before and after shot of one of the gardens I was in charge of: Pop Art!

This year is all about color and art. There are references to Monet, Picasso, and several other well-known artists. The show is open now through April 4th and is located on the 9th floor of the Macy's department store on State Street in Chicago. While you're there, be sure to check out the Atrium Fountain on the 1st floor as well as the Walnut Room on the 7th floor as these areas have also been transformed for the flower show!

Here's to looking forward to spring time! As I write this, I'm sitting in my home office in Elkhart, IN and it's snowing outside yet again! But I do see some daffodils poking through so the hope of spring is in the air!

Cheers,

Andrew
